RentoMojo data breach: 2.2M accounts exposed

In April 2023, the Indian rental service RentoMojo suffered a data breach. The breach exposed over 2M unique email addresses along with names, phone, passport and Aadhaar numbers, genders, dates of birth, purchases and bcrypt password hashes. Exposed data: dates of birth, email addresses, genders, government issued ids, names, passport numbers, passwords, phone numbers, purchases, social media profiles. The breach dates from Apr 15, 2023; Have I Been Pwned loaded it on May 10, 2023.
What to do
- If you had a RentoMojo account, change its password and the password of any other account that reused it.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
- Check whether your addresses are in this breach at https://haveibeenpwned.com.
- Expect targeted phishing that quotes the leaked details; verify any unexpected contact out of band.
