Multiple NETGEAR devices are prone to admin password disclosure via simple crafted requests to the web management server. CISA added CVE-2017-5521 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on Sep 8, 2022, which means attackers are exploiting it in the wild.
What to do
- Apply updates per vendor instructions. If the affected device has since entered end-of-life, it should be disconnected if still in use.
- US federal agencies must remediate by Sep 29, 2022 (BOD 22-01); treat that as the outer limit.
