Heroes of Newerth data breach: 8.1M accounts exposed

In December 2012, the multiplayer online battle arena game known as Heroes of Newerth was hacked and over 8 million accounts extracted from the system. The compromised data included usernames, email addresses and passwords. Exposed data: email addresses, passwords, usernames. The breach dates from Dec 17, 2012; Have I Been Pwned loaded it on Jan 24, 2016.
What to do
- If you had a Heroes of Newerth account, change its password and the password of any other account that reused it.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication wherever it is offered.

- Expect targeted phishing that quotes the leaked details; verify any unexpected contact out of band.
