Cisco IOS XR Open Port Vulnerability (CVE-2022-20821)

Cisco IOS XR software health check opens TCP port 6379 by default on activation. An attacker can connect to the Redis instance on the open port and allow access to the Redis instance that is running within the NOSi container. CISA added CVE-2022-20821 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on May 23, 2022, which means attackers are exploiting it in the wild.
What to do
- Apply updates per vendor instructions.
- US federal agencies must remediate by Jun 13, 2022 (BOD 22-01); treat that as the outer limit.
