Apache Tomcat Improper Privilege Management Vulnerability (CVE-2020-1938)
Severity: critical · Patch status: patched · Since 2022-03-03 · CVE-2020-1938
Apache Tomcat treats Apache JServ Protocol (AJP) connections as having higher trust than, for example, a similar HTTP connection. If such connections are available to an attacker, they can be exploited. CISA added CVE-2020-1938 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on Mar 3, 2022, which means attackers are exploiting it in the wild.
What to do
- Apply updates per vendor instructions.
- US federal agencies must remediate by Mar 17, 2022 (BOD 22-01); treat that as the outer limit.
