AerServ data breach: 66K accounts exposed
Severity: high · Patch status: no-fix-needed · Since 2018-12-06
In April 2018, the ad management platform known as AerServ suffered a data breach. Acquired by InMobi earlier in the year, the AerServ breach impacted over 66k unique email addresses and also included contact information and passwords stored as salted SHA-512 hashes. The data was publicly posted to Twitter later in 2018 after which InMobi was notified and advised they were aware of the incident. Exposed data: email addresses, employers, job titles, names, passwords, phone numbers, physical addresses. The breach dates from Apr 1, 2018; Have I Been Pwned loaded it on Dec 6, 2018.
What to do
- If you had a AerServ account, change its password and the password of any other account that reused it.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
- Check whether your addresses are in this breach at https://haveibeenpwned.com.
- Expect targeted phishing that quotes the leaked details; verify any unexpected contact out of band.
